Ceramics Exhibition “Traces of Memory ” by Catarina Gonçalves, on display at the Gama Lobo Palace through July 4

2026-04-27

“Traces of Memory” is a sensitive exploration of what endures beyond time.

In this exhibition, clay transcends its material nature to emerge as an archive of emotions, silences, and metamorphoses, giving form to a profound reflection on the human experience.

Taking an experimental approach, Catarina Gonçalves charts a course that oscillates between structure and erosion, where each piece reveals the tension between vulnerability and strength. The material, shaped by hand and influenced by the elements, becomes a metaphor for life’s journey itself: that which shapes us, wears us down, and, at the same time, teaches us to rise again.

The exhibition unfolds as a dialogue between organic forms and geometric compositions, in an exercise in balance where emptiness also serves as a language. Each object emerges as a vessel for stories, preserving physical traces of an intimate and transformative memory.

More than just a collection of ceramic pieces, “Traces of Memory” offers a space for contemplation and reflection, inviting the public to recognize in these objects the imprint of time and experience, and to reconsider how each person constructs—and reconstructs—their own narrative.
