The Clay Studio

Description

The Clay Studio is located in Martim Moniz Street, in the historic city center of Loulé, in the building where in the past was the ancient and recovered pottery of José João Velhote.

Next to the medieval walls, nowadays work two places that fit together and complement each other. In one of them, Domingos Gonçalves “Xavier” who was the potter until the building went into ruins, is back shaping and demonstrating how to work the clay, as well as selling its typical chimneys of the Algarve. On the other side, and in the course of the project Loulé Criativo, others potters are hosted for an incubation period to experiment and consolidate their activity.

The workshop hosts training for professionals in the sector and simultaneously the activity approach for students of schools and other audiences.
