Loulé has a huge tradition of musical culture, such as the brass band, folks groups and musicians that have been highlighted in the national musical context, having as main stage the “Cine-Teatro Louletano” and now the newly opened Loulé Conservatory of music-the first public school dedicated to teaching music in the South of the country.

In the city center at Solar das Palmeiras building, is Luthier Studio, where the luthier Manuel Amorim is dedicated to the construction and repairing of musical instruments, as Portuguese guitars, classical guitars, “violas campaniças”,” cavaquinhos”, mandolins, cellos, etc.

Showing to the new generations the entire manufacturing process, the tools involved, the different types of wood, as well as the history of the instruments is another goals to promote and encourage the continuity of the activity.

Manuel Amorim
A luthier for over 25 years, Manuel Amorim is dedicated to the construction and repair of Portuguese guitars, violas campaniças and classical guitars. Born in Vila Nova de Gaia, he studied in Coimbra and was an apprentice to Master Fernando Meireles. In 2001 he built the largest Portuguese guitar in the world, in Porto. Today he leads the Chordophone Workshop in Loulé, where he keeps tradition alive, always with an eye on the future and innovation.
