The dream of creating a space entirely dedicated to works in esparto came true today with the inauguration of the Casa do Esparto, in the former Sarnadas Primary School.
The inauguration was attended by the Presidents of the Parish Council of Alte and of Loulé Municipal Council, as well as by a number of people who wanted to mark this important date for the dynamisation of the interior of the municipality of Loulé.
The Casa do Esparto will be open Monday to Friday, from 10am to 12.30pm and from 3pm to 5pm. The centre will be run by master craftsmen Maria José Ramos, Manuela Limas, Aldegundes Gomes and Fernanda Martins and the craftsmen Isidoro Ramos, Neuza Barbosa and Ana Leão (trainees of the Master-Apprentice Course in Spartan Woven Fabrics, organised in 2021 by QRER).
In addition to the live work space and shop, the venue also offers the possibility to visit the “Awakening the Esparto” exhibition. This collective and itinerant exhibition follows on from the Master-Apprentice Knowledge Transmission Course – Esparto (2021) and the Creative Residency in Traditional Arts: Esparto (2022), organised within the scope of the activities of QRIAR – Algarve Creative Incubator and Loulé City Council.
On April 30 (Sunday), Casa do Esparto will be exceptionally open to the public, from 10.30am to 1pm, as an Open Day with free activities, as part of the Alte Arts and Culture Week.
