Alzira Neves

An artisan from Boliqueime, Alzira has dedicated herself to the art of the enterprise since she was 11 years old, following her mother’s teachings. A master of colourful patterns and the undertaking of 7 and 9 extensions, he creates traditional pieces such as carrycots, rugs, fans and dukes — his hallmark. With a regular presence at fairs such as Fatacil, Feira da Serra and Feira de Artesanato de Loulé, it has proudly been part of Casa da Empreita since its foundation, keeping the tradition of the Algarve palm alive.

Born in Boliqueime, Alzira Neves is part of the group of artisans who have been working in palm for the longest time, keeping alive a tradition deeply rooted in the Algarve. She learned the art of the enterprise from her mother, at the age of 11, and, at 18, sold her first pieces — the beginning of a journey that has never stopped.

Since 1991, he has participated in numerous craft fairs throughout the Algarve, especially Fatacil, where he exhibited his work for many years. He is a regular presence at the Serra Fair and the Loulé Handicraft Fair, events that help to disseminate and value the traditional know-how of the region.

Dividing her time between field work and contracting, Alzira dedicates herself with special pleasure to the creation of traditional models, such as carrycots, rugs, fans, doormats and deuces – one of her signature pieces. She is recognized for her mastery of colored patterns, the construction of 7 and 9 branches, the construction of nozzles and chains, techniques that she masters with precision and creativity.

Proud of her career and contribution to the preservation of traditional techniques, Alzira Neves has been part of Casa da Empreita since its foundation, where she continues to share her knowledge and inspire new generations of artisans.
