Born in Sarnadas, Maria José Ramos had her first contact with esparto at the age of 14. She learned to work with different formats that arrived by the hands of artisans from neighboring villages to D. Aldegundes’ house. There he produced rugs of various shapes and combinations.
Around the age of 20 she moved away from the profession, but returned at 69, as part of the Casa do Esparto project. Since then, he has been creating pieces that unite tradition and modernity, often with the contribution of designers.
For Maria José, each completed piece is a source of pride and joy.
