Susan Sutherland

Scottish by origin and Portuguese at heart, Susan Sutherland grew up surrounded by yarn and from an early age developed a passion for wool. She is dedicated to the creation of handmade knitting pieces and card, and spins much of the raw material she works with. He gives workshops where he teaches the art of spinning with handmade spinning wheels or spindles.

Susan Sutherland was born in Scotland, but it was in Portugal that she found the right place to live and develop her passion for wool. From an early age she was surrounded by yarns and textures – her father owned a large carpet factory – and this environment shaped her sensitivity and taste for manual work.

Today, at the head of the Ovelha Negra Knits brand, Susan is dedicated to knitting and creating unique pieces: clothing, accessories and even toys, all produced by hand. But his work goes far beyond the needles. She is the one who cards and spins the wool, transforming the raw material into exclusive skeins that she both sells and uses in her collections.

Deeply connected to tradition, Susan keeps the know-how of artisanal spinning alive, and shares this passion through workshops, where she teaches the art of spinning with a spinning wheel or spindle, always valuing the slow pace, care and authenticity of the manual process.

Thus, between natural fibers, colorful skeins and the magic of knitting, Susan built a project that reflects not only her personal story, but also her commitment to keeping alive the relationship between hands, wool and creativity.
