3D Paper Making & Casting Foundations — Session I
Description
This immersive in-person workshop is designed as a comprehensive, hands-on exploration of 3D paper making and casting techniques. Over two structured sessions (6 hours each), participants will build a strong foundation in mold-making and paper casting before advancing to more complex techniques, including multi-part molds, natural fibers, and hybrid casting methods.
Through guided experimentation and material exploration, this workshop fosters a laboratory mindset, encouraging participants to push creative boundaries and develop their personal artistic language using paper as a sculptural medium.
Whether you are new to the practice or looking to refine your skills, this workshop provides the technical knowledge and creative space to transform paper into dynamic, three-dimensional forms.
Program
This is the first of two session, whose focus is:
- Understanding paper as a sculptural medium: historical and contemporary perspectives
- Preparing and processing pulp from recycled materials
- Exploring paper’s structural properties: flexibility, texture, and strength
- Designing and crafting single-part molds using accessible materials
- Techniques for replicating shapes, textures, and reliefs in paperd
- Hands-on experiments in fiber content, density, and translucency to control the final form
A pre-workshop Zoom session will be held to introduce key concepts and techniques. This session will be recorded and shared with participants.
