Work the Palm: Weave the Braid in Open Mesh
Description
Loulé has been for a long time a land of weavers, women who are dedicated to weave Palm, a native plant of the Iberian Peninsula. The palm meshed is a technique to make coasters or other objects used to beautify some creations of the weavers.
Program
The workshop begins with a brief introduction to the history of the uses of the contract. The following follows:
- Palm preparation:
- Work on the palm mesh technique;
- Make the “baracinha”;
- Completion of a palm knit “cedoira”.

Loulé is traditionally the land of contractors, women who intertwine the palm leaves (from the dwarf palm tree abundant in the region), in a more or less complex braid and with which they create a wide variety of utilitarian and decorative pieces.
